Psychological Effects of Massage

The psychological effects of massage should not be underestimated. If the client feels healthier, invigorated, and more energetic, the massage has been worth the effort. People have regular massages as much for psychological as for physical benefit.

Many people suffer from stress and find that massage promotes relaxation as it soothes away minor aches and pains. For some clients, regular massage keeps them feeling more youthful and encourages them to pay more attention to proper nutrition, exercise, and good health practices.

Massage helps clients to become more aware of where they are holding tension, and where they have tight muscles or painful areas. By getting in touch with, or becoming aware of these conditions, the client can begin to focus on relaxing them both during the massage and on a daily basis. Becoming aware of these trouble spots and responding to them is considered part of preventive maintenance.
