You’ve Seen #Cowspiracy. Now What?

The new documentary, Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret, has created ripples in the environmental world. The independent film, released on 26 June 2014, points out that the following popular environmental organizations have done little to nothing to educate the public about the ravaging destruction of animal agriculture.

These trusted environmental organizations have failed to guide the people (yes, you and me…all of us) in understanding the leading cause of species extinction, ocean dead zones, water pollution, resource depletion, climate change, and habitat destruction.

Step #1: Stop contributing to these environmental organizations. They are not doing the job you have entrusted them to do.

Exception: The Rainforest Action Network. Since Cowspiracy released, RAN has been sharing facts from the film on social media with a new tag line of “Think Green, Eat Green.”

You can re-direct your funds to Animals United Movement Films & Media, the makers of Cowspiracy, so that they may distribute the movie Cowspiracy to larger and influential audiences and continue making more films of this caliber and nature.

Step #2: Familiarize yourself with cited facts from Cowspiracy. The film is being and will be challenged, mocked, criticized, and minimized. There are many organizations and corporations who are invested in you not knowing this information.

Make this webpage your new best friend: Cowspiracy: Fact Check

In blog posts, social media posts & comments, and articles, use these facts and include a link to this Fact Check page.

Step #3: Follow Cowspiracy – which is not just a movie, but now a movement also – on the following outlets:

Cowspiracy on Facebook – be sure to share posts!

Cowspiracy on Twitter – be sure to retweet!

• sign up for the Cowspiracy newsletter (scroll down to the JOIN OUR NEWSLETTER section)

Step #4: Pre-order the digital download and/or DVD today! (Scroll down under the trailer.) The DVD is set to release on November 6th.

Step #5: Spread the news about independent screenings of Cowspiracy in a theater. Listings are HERE. If you see a town or city listed where you have friends and/or family, send them the link.

Step #6: Search for Cowspiracy on Netflix.com, iTunes, and HULU. Your search will encourage these outlets to carry the film.

Step #7: And, lastly, do the most powerful thing: go vegan. It doesn’t have to be an overnight switch. The most important thing is that you do it with education. Many attempted vegans dove in fast and hard without much guidance, harmed their health, and have given veganism a bad reputation.

Becoming a healthful, life-long plant-centered eater is about far more than just removing the animal foods. It is possible. It is safe. And it is growing in understanding and popularity…for the environment, the animals, human health, and athletic performance.

Systematically transition your unexamined diet into a healthful plant-based one in as little as 2 months. Start here.

Mercy for Animals is a good source for reliable information and outcomes in tune with Cowspiracy.

Fantastic! Thank you for adding this Denise. I would have to say that PETA has done more for the environment (indirectly) than the environmental organizations highlighted in the film have done.

Hi Guys

Firstly thanks! I’ve been trying to communicate your message to my students etc for the last few years & was feeling a bit lonely on it to tell you the truth. My courage has been renewed. Have pre-ordered the doco but am really looking forward to the 50-minute school version because these things are so much more effective in one hit. So just encouraging you to keep working on it. Cheers!

Dave

Hi Dave, I think you’re trying to write to Kip & Keegan. This is not their site. I’m happy to learn that you’re passing this information on to the younger generation. I believe it is our responsibility to make them aware of what they face and to help them to find solutions and hope. Keep up the great work!

Great article Carla! You answered exactly the question my boyfriend asked after we watched Cowspiracy – “So now what?”.

We had the same experience when we participated in the People’s Climate Change March in London. Big screens displayed what addressing climate change would save – this included “milk’ and “BBQ’s” and this was coming from the organisers!

The only thing I would add to your list is in addition to re-directing funds, when you call to cancel your donation, tell them why. I did this with Greenpeace awhile ago and while they were upset that I was cancelling, it was a positive conversation.

Request restaurants to offer vegan options… Shop with your dollars! Only patronize restaurants that do offer vegan options. Share your experiences with the fantastic food on your Facebook page. Get your friends (omnivore even) to patronize them too.
